National Historical Register
In 2013, a small group of dedicated graduate brothers led an effort to have our historic Castle placed on the national register of historic places. This is another first for Omega Mu - the first and only fraternity on campus to receive this recognition as well as the only fraternity in Maine to be recognized as such.
The architects of the Castle were C. Parker Crowell and Walter Lancaster of Thomas & Crowell. Crowell was a University of Maine graduate and a noted Maine architect having been the first architect from Maine admitted to the American Institute of Architects. Crowell and his Firm are credited with the design of over 1,000 buildings during the course of his career. The Firm subsequently became WBRC Architects and Engineers still based in Bangor. Brother John Rohman (1968) is the retired Chairman, CEO and President of WBRC.
The National Register of Historic Places Nominating form provides detailed information on the planning and architectural history as well as historical context from the University’s point of view at that time.
